Canada & Insurance Agents & Brokers
added September 15, 2008
I was honored to speak to the Canadian Bar Association in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on issues relating to insurance agents and brokers and insurance fraud. For a Californian born in Los Angeles surrounded by mountains on three sides and the ocean, to see the great plains of Canada was amazing. My wife and I then drove through the Canadian Rockies, stopping in Banff and Lake Louise, probably the most beautiful landscape in North America, if not the world, I must thank the James Hutson and Randal S. Carlson for inviting me.
I was able to explain to this group of Canadian lawyers that insurance agents and brokers are not only the first line of defense against insurance fraud they are often tempted to engage in fraud themselves. I discussed the case of Michael Segal and Near North Insurance that resulted in a conviction, jail time and massive fines, that should put fear in the hearts of all insurance brokers who are tempted to play the "float" and use trust account monies for personal expenses.
