Earthquake Insurance Training Required

By statute, California Insurance Code Section 10089.3(a) requires that the Department of Insurance adopt regulations setting forth standards governing the training of insurance adjusters in evaluating damage caused by earthquake. The statute specifically provides that the California Earthquake Authority shall make available to the Department of Insurance the standards used by the Authority in order for the Department to develop regulations that are consistent with standards used by the authority. Section 10089.3 goes on to provide that insurers must train and accredit adjusters regarding these standards by December 31, 2004.

Continuing in its efforts to micro-manage the insurance industry from Sacramento the California Department of Insurance has implemented California Code of Regulations, Title 10, Chapter 5, Subchapter 7.5.1 entitled "Insurance Adjuster Training For Evaluating Earthquake Damage."
