Insurance 101 – Volume 70 – Stacking

A claims person faced with a stacking claim should determine whether the coverages are interpolicy or intrapolicy and whether there is any reason stacking should be allowed in cases where there are multiple policy years involved in a continuous loss. If the claim is based on intrapolicy insurance policies issued in Wyoming (and other states that apply its reasoning), the claims person can safely limit payments to a single limit. Outside Wyoming, be careful to review the law where the policy is to be performed or was issued.
