When the interviewer meets a witness for the first time, he or she should be introduced by name instead of by title, as titles can be confrontational. Their use almost always accomplishes nothing. It is best if the interviewer does not mention what unit he or she belongs to either. This is an important psychological step in presenting the right attitude and creating an atmosphere that is not confrontational.
