Case Studies – Sinking Boat

Two South Jersey men, including one from Cape May County, and a Philadelphia man pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges stemming from an August 2009 attempt to sink a ship off the coast of Cape May. A 38-yearold man from Cherry Hill, pleaded guilty on November 16, 2011 to one count of conspiracy to destroy a vessel on the high seas. He was the ship’s owner and arranged to sink the vessel to claim nearly  $400,000 from the insurance company once the boat sank.
